Paul Cantor, '62 BA
We were saddened to learn of Paul Cantor's passing on August 10, 2018. Last year, the University of Alberta's Alumni Association awarded Paul the Distinguished Alumni Award - its highest honour - for his contributions to the Canadian financial sector and commitment to international development and corporate governance. This award recognizes alumni who have earned national or international prominence as a result of their outstanding professional achievements and service to society, and this was indeed true of Paul, who lived a very successful and service-oriented life.
In an interview last year, Paul credited his Bachelor of Arts degree, which he received in 1962, with giving him a foundation from which to work. "It provided me with context for just about every decision I had to make later on in life," he says. "It made me understand the importance of putting issues in context and gave me the tolerance to be respectful of other people's opinions."
