Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Economics! We have a large undergraduate program offering economics majors, Honors and Certificates. We also have a strong graduate program, offering two Masters' and a Ph.D. program. We offer a wide breadth of economic courses, so you are sure to find something that interests you. Our internationally diverse faculty is dedicated to teaching and has one of the country's strongest research records.

Dr. Kenichi Shimizu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta, has been awarded an Insight Development Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) for 2024-2026
David Brown has received the 2024 Martha Cook Piper Research Prize

David Brown is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta, where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Energy Economics & Policy.
