Early Childhood Education

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the Early Childhood Education (ÉPE) program must meet the following requirements:

Proficiency in the French language:

  1. Successful completion of one of the following courses (Alberta Education Curriculum)
    1. French 30-1, 30-2
    2. French Language Arts 30-1, 30-2
    3. French 30 (9 year), 31, OR
  2. The equivalent of these courses in another Canadian province or in another country; OR
  3. Hold a diploma or degree from an accredited post-secondary institution where French is the language of instruction.

English language proficiency:

Generally, English language proficiency is demonstrated by successful completion of Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 and 30-2. Applicants admitted to Centre collégial de l’Alberta programs who do not have equivalent courses are admitted, unless otherwise specified in certain programs. However, they must demonstrate English proficiency as identified in the admission requirements for their program before obtaining their certificate or diploma and before they can obtain a Letter of Permission to study at another institution to complete their program. English language proficiency is demonstrated by:

  1. Successful completion of English as a Second Language courses leading to Canadian Language Benchmarks 9.
  2. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) overall score of 4.5, with no score below 4.0
  3. IELTS (International English Language Testing System): overall score of 6.5, with no score below 6.0

Specific admission requirements for certificate and diploma programs in Early Childhood Education

Applicants must write a cover letter in French (between 500 and 650 words), including the following elements:

  1. Personal and professional introduction related to early childhood
  2. Description of the role and responsibilities of an early childhood educator
  3. Description of the professional identity of an aspiring early childhood educator 

 


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Before taking part in the first placement, certain requirements imposed by the province and employers must be met. A list of these additional requirements can be found on the Additional Requirements page. The requirements are the same for the diploma and certificate.
