Masters of Engineering: Construction
Construction engineers are problem-solvers who combine critical thinking, project management and communication skills with their knowledge of construction and engineering methods to build facilities that are safe and on-budget.
Graduates of this field may become planners or site engineers for municipal and energy projects, commercial buildings, housing developments, or road infrastructure. The Hole School of Construction Engineering is supported by the U of A’s Construction Innovation Centre (CIC). Supported by more than 50 partners in industry, professional associations and funding bodies, the CIC brings together more than 30 faculty experts to drive industry-relevant research.

Program Objectives
- The construction engineering master of engineering program is designed to prepare students for engineering practice in modern construction engineering.
- It will also equip students with the required knowledge, skills, methods, tools, experience, and professional communication capability to contribute to the civil engineering industry and society at large.
- The program prepares the students for an entry career in the construction engineering industry.
Learning Outcomes
- Estimate the cost and duration for construction activities.
- Apply the critical path method and production planning methodologies to a construction project.
- Evaluate project performance, analyze project cash flow, and identify sources of uncertainty in construction projects
- Schedule and manage construction project timelines, resources and workflows.
- Optimize and oversee construction methods and processes.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project-level risks in construction.
- Apply advanced production planning theories, human factors principles, and digital technologies to improve overall construction project management.
