Areas of research
Construction
We are home to the Hole School of Construction Engineering, which has helped Alberta’s construction industry improve its project performance and enhance its competitive position by delivering cutting-edge tools and practices.
Environmental Engineering and Science
We are one of the largest and best-equipped environmental engineering programs in Canada.
Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental
Our students benefit from access to the most comprehensive cold room facilities in the world and the multi-million-dollar Oil Sands Tailings Research Facility.
Mining
Our program is home to the Alberta Chamber of Resources Chair in Mining Engineering, the Canada Research Chair in Natural Resources Uncertainty Management and the Centre for Computational Geostatistics.

We offer expertise in steel, concrete, masonry, timber and composites research and code development.

Our program investigates the sociological, economical and environmental impact of transportation on society.
Water Resources
We are recognized internationally for our research contributions in computer modelling, field measurements and advanced laboratory experiments in the T. Blench Hydraulics Lab, one of the largest hydraulic modelling facilities in Canada.
