Management Resource Library
The Management Resource Library is the U of A’s one-stop shop for resources on managing people. Created in consultation with human resources experts and supervisors from across the university, the library connects you with the tools and templates you need to fulfill your supervisory responsibilities.

about
The library brings together information from the U of A website, its leadership and management programs and in-house human resources experts. It can help you navigate a variety of supervisory tasks, including:
- getting oriented as a supervisor
- hiring
- planning and assigning work
- providing feedback to your direct reports
- conducting an annual review
- navigating an employee leave of absence
- offboarding an employee
Note: The library does not replace the content within the “Managing” section of the HRHSE website. It offers a single point of access to supervisor-specific content from the U of A website, its leadership and management programs, and human resources experts. When content is available on the web, staff are redirected there. Resources without a web presence are housed within the library.
benefits
The library resources are designed to be practical and immediately usable. Once enrolled, you can access materials on-demand and in any order.
evolution
The MRL’s collection of resources will grow and change over time. If you have suggestions for how to improve the library, please fill out an evaluation form (located on the summary page at the end of each module).
We are working with Faculty Relations to upgrade the library to ensure that it meets the needs of Chairs, Deans and others who lead faculty members. We are in the initial stages of this collaboration and will communicate both within and outside of the library when resources specific to academic leaders have been added.
getting started
The MRL is located in Canvas. U of A supervisors can self-enroll using this link. You must be signed in with your CCID and password to self-enroll.
tracking process
Once in the MRL, you can track your progress by completing an (optional) quiz at the end of each module.
