CIHR-INMHA visited NMHI as part of national Brain Health engagement tour
The Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI) at the University of Alberta was pleased to welcome Dr. Patricia Conrod, Scientific Director of CIHR’s Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA), and Dr. Lazaro Sanchez-Rodriguez, Brain Health Strategy Lead, to the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
The visit brought together researchers, trainees, clinicians, and partners from across the NMHI community for discussions focused on the future of neuroscience, mental health, and addiction research in Canada. As part of INMHA’s national engagement efforts, the visit provided an opportunity to exchange ideas around research priorities, innovation, collaboration, training, and knowledge mobilization.
Throughout the day, NMHI members highlighted the breadth and impact of research taking place across the University of Alberta, while engaging in conversations about opportunities to strengthen partnerships and accelerate discovery in brain and mental health research.
A central component of the visit was a presentation by Dr. Conrod outlining INMHA’s emerging Brain Health Vision and its goals for advancing neuroscience, mental health, and addiction research nationally. The session welcomed researchers, trainees, innovators, and community members, and sparked thoughtful discussion about the future direction of the field and the importance of cross-sector collaboration.
The visit underscored the strength of the University of Alberta’s neuroscience and mental health research community and reinforced the importance of continued partnership between NMHI, CIHR-INMHA, the University Hospital Foundation, the Mental Health Foundation, and organizations across Canada working to improve outcomes for patients and communities.
