University of Alberta Protective Services (UAPS) provides a safe environment for students, staff, faculty and visitors of the university through the prevention, intervention and response to risks and emerging issues related to safety and security. Message from the Director
It is my honor to extend warm greetings on behalf of University of Alberta Protective Services (UAPS). For over 100 years, UAPS has been a vital law enforcement entity, securing five campuses and vast university properties. We take great pride in leading public safety on our campuses and protecting the well-being of everyone at the university.

Our Teams
Community Patrol Services Team
Community Patrol Services is focused on community engagement and collaboratively addressing security concerns with protective services teams and partners.
Community Patrol Services is led by Jesse Howey, Inspector.
Patrol
These community peace officers operate on our campuses, providing visible, approachable, and professional law enforcement services. With a focus on conflict resolution, crime prevention, and community engagement, they work collaboratively with protective services teams and partners to ensure a safe campus for all staff, students and visitors.
Community Assistance Team
A partnership between Protective Services, the Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and the Mustard Seed Society, this team helps individuals find and navigate support for help with houselessness, substance use, mental health, identification and financial support systems.
Community Liaison Officer
The University of Alberta Protective Services Community Liaison Officer is a Community Peace Officer who partners with Residence Services to support students living in residence. They provide education resources, support services, and engagement opportunities to promote a safe and inclusive living environment.
Wellness Animal
The UAPS Wellness Animal (UWA) is a wellness/therapy dog who serves to support the well-being of the campus community. The UWA Program is in collaboration with the Chimo Animal Assisted Wellness and Learning Society (CAAWLS).
Support Services Team
The Support Services team provides crucial administrative functions within Protective Services.
The Manager of Support Services is Lee Boyd, Senior Support Officer.
Dispatchers
The first point of contact when experiencing a safety and security issue, dispatchers evaluate calls for service and dispatch peace officers in order of priority.
Security Agents
Security agents support peace officer operations by providing a uniformed presence, performing observe and report duties (such as building patrols, site security, access control, event security) and interacting with members of the public.
Organizational Security Services Section
Organizational Security Service Section (OSSS) assesses and manages risk to the university as well as to individuals within our university community. OSSS also assists with special events to ensure a safe and vibrant campus.

UAPS/Edmonton Police Service Liaison
UAPS and the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have collaborated to ensure an EPS member is embedded within UAPS full time. This collaboration allows for more effective coverage and greater responsivity between agencies.
