I am pleased to welcome you to the Community-University Partnership for the Study of Children, Youth, and Families.
Founded in 2000 and housed at the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta, CUP is a unique collaboration of partners committed to supporting the well-being of children, youth and families across Edmonton & Alberta. CUP’s partnership combines community insight with the rigor of research. Our vision is one where communities are engaged in supporting the wellbeing of children, youth and families. Our role in supporting this vision is to create research and evaluation environments where community, government, university, and funding partners collaborate to access and use the best possible evidence to inform effective practices, programs and policies. We are committed to a community-based research approach that is mutually beneficially, informed by multiple perspectives, and scientifically rigorous.
The long standing relationships between CUP faculty, staff, and students and community are critical to the success of our mission. True collaboration, engagement and shared leadership between community and university partners are key foundations to our work. We support our community partners in collaborating effectively, building reflective learning into regular practice, and mobilizing evidence in decision-making. We connect students with partnerships and projects where they can learn how to build collaborative partnerships, engage in respectful co-creation of knowledge, and to mobilize knowledge into decision making. Bringing together all of our expertise, ideas, and resources produces a tremendous power to build collective capacities and influence positive social changes.
I invite you to join us as we collaborate to inform practices, programs and policies that support the wellbeing of children, youth, and families. Browse our site, get to know us better, and join us in this important work.
