CUP produces reviews of early childhood measurement tools. Tool Reviews are organized into three categories: assessment, screening, and evaluation.
Assessment: a process of systematic observations and analysis used to deepen understanding of a child’s competencies and resources, and of the caregiving and learning environments most likely to help a child make fullest use of his/her developmental potential (Meisels & Atkins-Burnett, 2000).
Screening: the use of a brief procedure or measurement tool designed to identify, from within a large population of children, those who may need further assessment to verify developmental and/or health risks.
: the systematic examination of the process and/or outcomes of a program or policy, compared to implicit or explicit standards, in order to contribute to the improvement of the program or policy (Weiss, 1998).
