9.3 University Policies for Dealing with Difficult Issues

Departments may be required to deal with difficult issues such as student plagiarism, cheating, harassment, disruption of classes, misuse of property or computer facilities, apprehended danger, threatening or violent conduct, or misconduct in research and scholarship. It is important that these issues be managed carefully.

The University has developed procedures for dealing with many of these circumstances. Where the incident involves a graduate student, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) recommends that departments consult with one of the Associate Deans of the FGSR before taking any action, since the FGSR has experience in dealing with issues of this nature. Brief descriptions of the policies are outlined in Section 9, but the source documents should be reviewed.
