The Climate Change + Health
The Climate Change and Health Hub is a dedicated group of faculty members, staff and students within the College of Health Sciences and across the University of Alberta who are passionate about addressing climate change and its effects on health.
Our members bring diverse expertise in health sciences, natural and applied sciences, education, social sciences, arts and humanities, and other diverse ways of knowing.
What we do
The hub fosters meaningful collaboration among researchers, communities, practitioners and policymakers to deepen our understanding of how climate change affects health, as well as health-related adaptation and mitigation strategies. We also strive to put our research findings into action by inspiring academics, communities, practitioners, and decision-makers to make positive changes that benefit the well-being of our planet and all its inhabitants.
Research
We engage in research to gain a deeper understanding of climate change's effects on human and planetary health. We call upon different disciplinary perspectives to identify the root causes of climate change and to find evidence-based solutions to its current impacts. We recognize the importance and validity of Indigenous world knowledge systems and world views and are committed to interweaving them, where possible, with scientific knowledge to take meaningful action in addressing the climate crisis.
Advocacy
We use our research findings to advocate for policies and actions that reduce the effects of climate change on human and planetary health.
Education + Awareness
We provide evidence-based educational resources to members of the university community and beyond, engaging in public awareness campaigns about climate action related to health outcomes, adaptation, mitigation, and resilience strategies.
