The Unfinished Project of the Arab Spring international conference comes to the U of A on September 25-27th

Is the Middle East and North Africa region exceptionally immune to democratic movements, values and institutions? Come join the discussion on September 25-27th.

18 September 2015

The Unfinished Project of the Arab Spring international conference, taking place at the University of Alberta next week on September 25-27th, is an attempt to contest 'Middle East exceptionalism' by examining contemporary social movements and their aftermath in the region with an eye to the socio-political opportunities and potentials for progressive change they left behind. The organizers propose that the revolutions were indicative of deep-rooted socio-cultural and structural transformations in the contemporary Middle East and North Africa and that they symbolized a popular quest for human dignity, social justice and freedom.

The conference features distinguished scholars of the Middle East and Islamic Studies across various academic disciplines. Come join us for an exciting and very much current discussion!
