MSc and PhD in Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences

The Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Graduate Program offers both thesis-based MSc and PhD degrees, and is coordinated by Dr. Ezekiel Weis, an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta. As a graduate student in our department, you are encouraged to explore new avenues in multi-disciplinary research to improve patient-centered eye care. Research students benefit from full access to cutting-edge research laboratories on campus, as well as our various off campus facilities and teaching sites.

Research interested in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences encompass a broad spectrum of opportunities such as:

  • Ocular Physiology
  • Retinal Research
  • Tele-Ophthalmology
  • Ophthalmic Applications of Nanotechnology
Supervision

All graduate students must engage an academic faculty member to supervise and mentor them throughout the duration of the program. Scholarships and Funding

The Medical Sciences Graduate Program Scholarships (MSGP) are available to qualifying MSc and PhD students. Other funding opportunities may exist within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FoMD), or the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS).
