Safety tips during electrical upgrade on North Campus

Work that is underway to upgrade electrical distribution on North Campus will affect outdoor lighting.

What

Temporary lighting has been installed, however students and staff should expect lower light conditions than usual in these areas.

Where

North Campus in the area south of 89 Avenue between 112 and 114 Street. Specifically the areas between St. Joseph’s College, St. Stephen’s College, the Brain & Aging Research Building (BARD), Education Centre and the Education Car Park.

What else

Here are safety precautions and tips to consider when travelling through the affected areas after dark:

  • Consider travelling in pairs
  • Let others know your travel plans and contact them when you’re at your destination
  • Use the flashlight feature on your cell phone when travelling through the affected areas
  • Keep your cell phone in-hand for quick access to make an emergency call if necessary
  • A reminder that during an emergency, call 911 followed by 780-492-5050 to inform U of A Protective Services
  • Consider calling U of A Protective Services at 780-492-5050 to arrange a safe walk or register as staff working alone in the area
