GCE Transfer
To be awarded Transfer Credit
-
Transfer credit and the opportunity to earn credit by special assessment are available for students who have completed specific A-level subjects with a grade of B or higher in the final A-level exam from one of the recognized United Kingdom's A-level boards (e.g. Cambridge Assessment, AQA, Pearson, etc.).
-
To apply for transfer credit, students must present their final A-level certificates to the Office of the Registrar. Students who have recently taken A-levels and whose final certificate have not yet been issued, will need to present a hard copy of their Provisional Statement of Results certified by their High School to the Office of the Registrar.
Note for students entering the Faculty of Engineering:
-
Transfer credits for the first (qualifying) year courses does not reduce the minimum course load requirement of 37.0 units.
-
Students may have only one 100-level complementary studies elective (* 3 ) as a degree requirement.
-
There is no transfer credit for Arabic, Chinese, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, or Spanish. Students may be eligible for transfer credit from Chemistry (towards CHEM 261) and/or Biology (towards BIOL 107) upon admission to the second year if the courses are applicable to the engineering discipline they are admitted into. Please contact the Faculty of Engineering for more information.
Transfer Credit and the International Student Tuition Guarantee
International students starting at the University of Alberta beginning in Fall 2020 on a program-based tuition model will continue to receive transfer credit for GCE courses that meet the advanced standing requirements.
You will receive an updated tuition guarantee after the add/drop deadline of your first semester. This tuition adjustment will reflect transfer credits awarded up to a maximum of 12 credits at the beginning of your program, applied in your first and second semesters (Fall and/or Winter terms only). If you are awarded more than 12 transfer credits, you will receive a tuition adjustment at the end of your program for the remainder of your transfer credits.
