Abstract Submissions

Abstract submissions are now closed.

All abstracts will be evaluated and presentation format assigned by the CVRI Research Day Organizing Committee (standard 8-minute oral, 3MT-style/rapid fire or poster presentation). 

AWARDS

There will be prizes awarded in each of the presentation categories (standard 8-minute oral, 3MT-style/rapid fire and poster presentations).

In addition the following awards will also be presented:

DR. FRANCIS X. WITKOWSKI PUBLICATION AWARD

This publication award was established to remember and honor the late Dr. Witkowski's technologically advanced work in cardiovascular research. The award will be given to a trainee and favor innovative or technologically-based science in a cardiovascular-related research article (in press or submitted in a peer-reviewed journal within the last year).

Application Deadline: May 15, 2024

The quality and potential impact of the article will be judged by a panel of scientists/clinicians from the University of Alberta’s Cardiovascular Research Institute and the successful applicant announced at Research Day on June 7th.


CARDIOLOGY PROGRAM AWARDS

  1. Jose Galante Chicurel Award in Cardiology - Awarded to a resident physician with satisfactory academic standing in any year of a postgraduate medical program in Cardiology. Selection based on academic standing and a demonstrated commitment to cardiology research.
  2. Henry Anton Deutsch Medical PGME Research Award - Awarded to students with superior
    academic achievement who is a cardiology resident in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Selection based on academic standing.

Residents who are interested in being considered for either of the cardiology awards are asked to submit the following documents to the Cardiology Program Coordinator Melissa Peters via email at medncard@ualberta.ca:

  1. The research section of their CV
  2. One exemplary research abstract of no more than one page in length
