Residence Orientation

Whether you’re just starting your university journey, finishing your undergraduate degree, studying in graduate school or a professional program, or anything in between, residence orientation equips you with the tools for success in the academic year. No matter where you are in your journey, residence orientation is tailored to your level of study and experience as a student.

Orientation will enable you to:

  • settle into your new home
  • bond with others in your community and make new friends through group activities
  • develop a personal and academic support network on topics such as mental wellness, allyship and academic skills
  • make connections with helpful resources both within and outside of the residence community
  • meet and connect with optional academic and non-academic cohort communities that provide support throughout the year
  • and more!

BaseCamp: First-year residence orientation stream

Moving away from home and starting university can be a daunting mountain to climb. BaseCamp provides you with early access to resources, experiences and learning opportunities to help them transition into university. You can meet your new neighbours and get settled in your new community—all before classes begin!

First-year students living in residence are automatically registered in BaseCamp.

Ascent: Upper-year residence orientation stream

Ascent is designed to build strong communities, get you comfortable in your new living environment, develop peer connections and introduce you to the surrounding Edmonton community. Explore and develop a sense of citizenship in Edmonton and establish your new support system before classes start!

Winter Orientation

Moving in for the winter? Don’t worry! Residence orientation programming is also offered to students moving into residence in the winter term to help you ease into campus life.

All students entering residence for the first time in the winter will automatically receive communication about Winter Orientation activities leading up to move-in.
