HYRS Program Hosts

We have now opened HYRS host registration for the Summer 2023 program, which will take place (in-person) July 5-August 16, 2023. We are seeking researchers from a variety of health & medical science areas, including Alberta Innovates priority areas, to host a Grade 11 student on a research project for 6 weeks this summer.

HYRS students are paid (directly by the HYRS program) for 30-35 hours/week of employment for the six weeks of the program.  Students will come from a variety of high schools across central and northern Alberta, and we particularly encourage students from traditionally underrepresented groups to apply for the HYRS program. In addition to working daily in their host placements, students will also have weekly activities facilitated by HYRS staff to help them explore their academic and career options.

The HYRS program receives far more applications from students than we have host placements for. For Summer 2023, we aim to place at least 25 students. While host applications are not subject to a competitive process, they will be reviewed to ensure alignment with HYRS program goals and placement suitability for high school participants.
