About the Exhibit
a tension pairs the hyper visible language of warning signs with subtle poetic text to reference the broad spectrum of notations of trauma that exist in home spaces. Through textiles and printmaking, Hayes references her personal histories and layers of transgenerational trauma to create a space where viewers can explore the multiplicitous nature of traumatic transference and the broader impacts of trauma on individuals, families, and communities.
Emily Hayes is an interdisciplinary artist from Goulds, Newfoundland. She has a BFA in Visual Arts from Memorial University and is pursuing her Masters in Printmaking at the University of Alberta. Emily’s practice is based in photomechanical printmaking, sculpture and video installation. Her practice deals with themes of home spaces, memory, and traumatic transference, investigating societal tropes of normalcy and concepts of the nuclear family.
