Get to know... Matthew Tang

This month, we’re excited to highlight Matthew Tang, Student Commons Lead at the Alberta School of Business!

What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t know?

My eyes are slightly different shades of brown. I tell people my left eye is Caramel and my right eye is Mocha.

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or day off?

Usually cooperative video and/or board games with friends and family. Sometimes competitive games with the right crowd.

What’s a book, movie or TV show you’re currently enjoying?

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica series and movies are phenomenal. It looks very cutesy but hides a mature darkness, and this single-handedly redefined the genre. The 4th movie is coming out soon!

Do you have a favorite meal or go-to comfort food?

Fresh Egg Tarts - both Chinese style and Portuguese style.

What inspires or motivates you the most in your day-to-day life?

My sister. She’s a survivor and a hero!

Can you share a bit about your role and what brought you to the Alberta School of Business?

As the Student Commons Lead, not only do I manage the Carruthers Student Commons, but I also take part in the General Office and building operations. I had my humble beginnings in Computing Science, but came to the realization that it wasn’t the right fit for me. My specialty in administration work and event management led me to the School of Business.

What has been your most memorable moment at the Alberta School of Business so far?

Being given the opportunity to lead. It’s a form of acknowledgement and trust that I am truly grateful for.

What’s one piece of advice you’d share with a new colleague joining the school?

There’s a lot of brilliant and funny people here at the School of Business. Get to know them and listen to what they have to say!
