Bachelor of Commerce Admission Requirements
There are three admission pathways to obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree:
upon completion of Grade 12
as a post-secondary university transfer student
upon completion of a recognized four-year Bachelor's degree*
* Students with a BCom degree or equivalent are not eligible. Please look to see if an Alberta MBA or Masters program is the right fit.

Post-Secondary Transfer Admission
Effective October 1, 2026, the admission requirements for students transferring to the Alberta School of Business have changed. Please see the new requirements for both internal and external students below:
Transfer Admission Requirement
- The successful completion of 24 units of transferable postsecondary course weight.
- The completion of the five required high school subjects:
- English Language Arts 30-1
- Mathematics 30-1
- A combination of three subjects from Group A, B and/or C. A maximum of one subject from Group B.
- Minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.3.
- A GPA of 2.3 and possession of the basic requirements does not guarantee admission and historically has not been a competitive GPA. The competitive GPA can fluctuate each intake due to the quality of the applicant pool and the number of spaces available in the undergraduate program quota. Admission is not guaranteed for any applicant who is not qualified (i.e., missing a requirement) and competitive for admission to the BCom program by the transcript deadline. Please visit uab.ca/averages for more information.
- All undergraduate applicants to English-speaking and bilingual programs need an adequate level of English Language Proficiency prior to admission, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin. Please visit the U of A Admissions website for additional information on the ELP requirement.
Transfer Credit Assessment
We are not able to assess or advise on transfer credit until after a student has applied, been admitted, and the Business Undergraduate Office has assessed their official transcripts.
Please visit Transfer Alberta website to view course transferability. You must check each of your courses individually in the search function on the website to determine if there is a transfer agreement. Please ensure that you read all details of the transfer agreement. If no transfer agreement for the course is found, then the course is not transferable to the U of A. Alternatively, the University of Alberta also has a Transfer Credit Search Tool available that will allow students to evaluate and see if their courses that they have taken will be transferable to the University of Alberta.
