Postdoctoral Scholar in Cell Biology
Job Description
A post-doctoral position is available to study the role of redox signaling at mitochondria-associated membranes (MAMs) for brain development and disease (including rare diseases based on mutations of MAM proteins or altered expression of these proteins in neurodegeneration and/or neuroinflammation). This is full-time on-site position in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas Simmen at the University of Alberta.
Eligible candidates must have a significant publication record in high-profile journals. The candidate will be able to direct their research into the Drosophila melanogaster model system and neurodegeneration or rare diseases, or alternatively, into biochemical, and stem cell biology techniques to investigate neuroinflammation in the context of multiple sclerosis (MS). Role Description
- PhD degree in disciplines related to biomedical research.
- Demonstrated scientific productivity and a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed publications in high-profile journals. Applicants must be competitive for the Canada Impact+ program, for details see here.
- Excellent laboratory and research skills in research related to Cell Biology.
- Expertise with the Drosophila melanogaster model system is an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, as well as experience with mentoring students, and scientific presentations.
- The candidate must be an effective team player.
Qualifications
The Postdoctoral Researcher will lead an independent research project and contribute to collaborative projects within the group. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, preparing manuscripts for publication, and assisting in the development of grant proposals.
