Graduate Student Positions in Neuromuscular Diseases

Dr. Toshifumi Yokota’s laboratory at the University of Alberta is seeking applications from highly motivated graduate students interested in pursuing research in genome-editing and antisense technology.

Dr. Yokota’s laboratory is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in developing treatments for muscular dystrophy and rare genetic diseases using a combination of experimental and computational approaches. Research projects in the lab incorporate cutting-edge techniques including antisense oligonucleotides, delivery technologies, CRISPR/Cas9, and machine learning to advance therapeutic development and understanding of these conditions. Graduate students will join a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment.

Graduate trainees will have opportunities to develop a broad range of research skills, including in silico drug design, muscle cell culture (human and animal cells), animal models, muscle physiology studies, histology, confocal and two-photon laser microscopy, molecular analyses such as RNA-seq and quantitative real-time RT-PCR, molecular cloning, protein biochemistry, and proteomics. The laboratory is committed to providing comprehensive mentorship and training to support students in developing strong foundations for future academic, biomedical, or health-related careers.
