The Augustana Campus extends the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine's reach beyond Edmonton, creating unique opportunities for students, researchers, and communities across Alberta. Located in Camrose, Augustana offers a close-knit learning environment where students benefit from small class sizes, strong faculty connections, and meaningful community engagement. The campus strengthens our ability to train future rehabilitation professionals in diverse settings while expanding access to education, research, and care. Studying at Augustana
Core programming and requirements for graduation are the same for all students regardless of which campus they are assigned to. The only differences may be where placements or fieldwork experiences are completed, and the elective options available to them, as some are campus specific.

Augustana students complete the same clinical placement requirements and have access to the same network of opportunities. Students receive the same curriculum, training, and clinical experience — within a smaller, more personalized learning environment.
Rural Placements: What to Expect
Rural is defined as outside the greater Edmonton or Calgary areas. Most programs require at least one rural clinical placement or fieldwork experience, but Augustana students can expect multiple. We work to place students in their preferred rural locations, giving them experience and networking opportunities in the communities where they may want to practice after graduation.
Facilities
Augustana Campus has been a leader in distributed rehabilitation education since 2010, when it became home to Canada’s first satellite Physical Therapy program. Today, it continues to evolve to meet the needs of students and the communities they serve.
In 2024, the campus expanded to include Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology, alongside modernized classrooms and all-new equipment designed to support hands-on, interdisciplinary learning.
Students learn in purpose-built spaces that reflect real-world practice—supporting skill development, collaboration, and confidence throughout their training.

Chris Zarski, Associate Teaching Professor, Augustana Campus Coordinator (PT)
Chris Zarski has a three-minute commute to work, knows every student's name by the end of the first week, and keeps every graduation card he's ever received. He reads them once a year.
"It reminds me of the difference that being a supportive and caring instructor can have on the lives of a student," he says.

Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary AS A FACULTY: 1976-2026
Our roots run deep. In 1954, we began in response to the polio crisis and the growing need for skilled rehabilitation professionals. Over the next two decades, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology grew into programs that changed lives across Alberta and beyond.
A historic milestone. In 1976, we became Canada’s first full Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, pioneering degree programs and setting a new standard for education, research, and care.
A legacy of impact. A future of promise. Today, we are proud to be North America’s only free-standing Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. As we celebrate 50 years as a Faculty, we honour the alumni, students, partners and donors who shaped our past and who continue to drive our impact.
