The Office of the Vice-President (Research) supports faculty members interested in preparing nominations for a variety of national and international research awards.

What services do we offer?

Strategic advising + capacity building

We assist in the pre-nomination phase, guiding faculty members towards success:

  • Advising faculty members on the right awards for their specific career stage.
  • Hosting information session webinars.
  • Maintaining a library of past successful nominations (available for selected awards).
  • Offering one-on-one meetings. Schedule a video-call with us. Please, use the “Add Note” button in the confirmation email to tell us what you’d like to discuss.

Nomination preparation

We support the development of nomination dossiers:

  • Conducting in-depth review of most documents in nomination packages. See below for more details on review services ↓
  • Providing EDI support and reviews through our EDI Program Officer.
  • Developing guidance documents and templates for nomination packages.

Administrative management

We support nominations by coordinating pre- and post-awards’ processes:

  • Managing the internal selection of nominees for capped institutional nominations.
  • Collecting letters of support and assembling nomination dossiers.
  • Submitting nomination packages when necessary/possible.
  • Coordinating post-award procedures, including arranging video production for Royal Society of Canada recipients, initiating research funding accounts, and submitting institutional reports.

OVPR review services

The Office of the Vice-President (Research) supports your nomination for competitive prizes, fellowships, and honours through an in-depth review of your documents. 

Review is highly recommended as we have experience with the awards we support, and we can provide valuable insights, especially regarding content.

Each award requires a unique set of documents in their submission package. Please see below a list of documents we review.

  • Letters of nominations
  • Candidate statements and other types statements (e.g. impact statement)
  • Detailed appraisals
  • Research project proposals
  • Narrative CVs 
  • Traditional CVs
  • Biographies 
  • Long answers to form prompts or questions

Documents we do NOT review

Note that the Office of the VPR does not review letters of support.

How to submit documents for review

Submit all documents for review to vpraward@ualberta.ca. Each document should be sent as a separate file and in Microsoft Word format.
