Metabolic

Our metabolic testing services provide information regarding your body’s metabolism at rest or your body’s current fitness level. Through metabolic tests we are able to give you a better understanding of your body's energetic function.

Maximal Oxygen Consumption (VO2max) Testing - $200

This is the single best test for measuring aerobic fitness. With the metabolic system, we are able to measure the body’s ability to use oxygen at an efficient rate during muscular work. The maximal oxygen consumption value (VO2max) is a measure of the maximal rate at which oxygen can be taken in, transported and used to perform muscular work. It can be performed on a variety of modalities including treadmill or bike.

Information you will receive from this test includes:

  • VO2max values, both absolute and relative
  • Normative comparisons for your age and sex
  • Heart Rate Max
  • Aerobic and Anaerobic Threshold determination
  • Heart Rate training zones
  • Fat and carbohydrate usage
  • Maximum ventilation
  • Customized results package and follow up consultation

What to bring:

  • Comfortable workout wear, appropriate footwear, water bottle, and snacks
  • Signed consent and GAQ forms

Time: 1 hour

Lactate Threshold Test - $250

Finger tip blood lactates help determine lactate/anaerobic thresholds. This test can be performed on either a treadmill or bike.

Information you will receive from this test includes:

  • Lactate threshold determination
  • Heart rates associated with lactate thresholds
  • Peak heart rate
  • Power output (watts) or speed (km/h) that lactate thresholds occur

What to bring:

  • Comfortable workout wear, appropriate footwear, water bottle, and snacks
  • Signed consent and GAQ forms

Time: 1 hour

Note: Can be combined with a VO2max test for $400. A combination package can only be conducted at the same time if you select the bike for your test. Otherwise, the lactate and VO2max tests need to be booked on two separate days.

Resting Metabolic Rate Determination - $200

At rest, lying still and comfortably for 20-30 minutes, we can measure your exchange of gases to determine the number of calories your body burns while at rest. This resting metabolic rate caloric number can be used to give insight on the number of calories needed to achieve weight gain/loss goals or ensure your athlete is consuming enough calories for training.

For the best results this test should be completed first thing in the morning after an overnight fast.

Information you will receive from this test includes:

  • Amount of calories at rest that you would expend in a day (Kcal/day)
  • Resting metabolic measures (oxygen consumption, breathing rate)
  • Estimation of % fat vs % carbohydrate you burn

What to bring:

  • Comfortable clothes and water bottle
  • Signed consent and GAQ forms

Time: 1 hour

Note: This test can be combined with the InBody body composition scan for $260 to help provide comprehensive understanding of your overall metabolic health.

Hydration + Sweat Testing

Every athlete loses fluid and electrolytes uniquely. Our sweat testing services allow you to quantify both how much you sweat (fluid loss) and how salty your sweat is (sodium concentration), so your hydration and fueling strategies can be precisely tuned for training and competition.

Sweat Concentration Test - $225

The amount of sodium you lose affects energy, performance, recovery, and how you feel. We are an authorized Precision Fuel & Hydration Sweat Test Centre. This test is performed at rest by using a quick, non-invasive test. We use small electrical currents to help induce sweating on the forearm. The sweat is collected and analyzed for sodium concentration.

You’ll get :

  • Your exact sodium concentration (mg/L), so you can tailor the strength of your drinks.
  • A personalized report and consultation with a hydration specialist.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable workout wear, appropriate footwear, water bottle, and snacks
  • Signed consent and GAQ forms

Time: 30-45 minutes.

Sweat Rate Test - $175

Sweat rate can influence your hydration and can change depending on the environment you do exercise. See what your sweat rate is by completing a 60-min prescribed vigorous workout where we track how much fluid you lose through sweating.

You’ll get:

  • A personal sweat rate so you’ll know how much fluid to replace during training or your next race
  • A personalized report and consultation with a hydration specialist

What to bring:

  • Comfortable workout wear, appropriate footwear, water bottle, and snacks
  • Signed consent and GAQ forms

Time: 1.5 hours.

SWEAT CONCENTRATION AND SWEAT RATE TEST - $325

Everyone sweats differently – both in how salty their sweat is and how much fluid they lose. This test combines two key assessments:

  1. Sweat concentration test: A simple resting test to measure how much sodium (salt) you lost in your sweat.
  2. Sweat rate: A short workout where we track how much fluid you lose through sweating

You’ll get:

  • Your sweat sodium concentration (mg/L)), so you can tailor the strength of your sport drink
  • A personal sweat rate so you’ll know how much fluid to replace during training or your next race
  • A detailed report and consultation with a hydration specialist

What to bring:

  • Comfortable workout wear, appropriate footwear, water bottle, and snacks
  • Signed consent and GAQ forms

Time: 2 hours.
