Geo Takach (Cohort 2001) completed his PhD in Communication Studies at the University of Calgary this fall. Geo research focused on representations of Alberta in light of ecological concerns around resource extraction in documentary films and advocacy videos. In addition to a dissertation, Geo's four-year quest for a literal version of the third degree produced a scholarly article (with a second one, plus four scholarly book chapters, forthcoming), a short documentary film screened at an international exhibition, two articles in the popular media, a workshop reading of his stage play (a 'musical eco-comedy'), ten scholarly conference presentations (seven international, three national) and three on-campus presentations. He thanks MACT heartily for making this possible.
