The Department of Music is pleased to announce private instruction in Indian classical music will once again be available to students at the University of Alberta for the 2010-2011 academic year.

This opportunity builds on the department's long history of excellence in the performance of music, as well as on its thriving program in the study of musical traditions of the world and of the Indian subcontinent in particular.

Instruction will be available for a limited number of students in sitar, tabla, or voice. Students will be selected on the basis of a brief interview/audition and will be able to register for instruction in one of several courses, open both to non-Bachelor of Musis students and to Bachelor of Music students. Interest, commitment, and general musical aptitude will be the primary criteria for selection; prior study of Indian music, while an advantage, is not required.

Interview/auditions will take place during the first week of classes. For further information, please contact Sharmila Mathur, director of the department's Indian Music Ensemble
