About QIS

The QIS (QUATUOR INTERNATIONAL DE SAXOPHONES) was formed in 2002 for performances at the World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis. It grew from the idea that the members had known each other for years, adjudicated at many of the world's international competitions together, yet they had rarely performed together. New commissioned works by composers Roger Boutry, Frederic Devreese, Sylvain Kassap, Tetsunosuke Kushida, Carleton Macy, Junichi Nihashi, and François Rossé are in their repertory. The members meet in different parts of the world to perform together and explore new directions in contemporary music from composers of diverse cultures and nationalities. Japanese pianist Mari Watanabe frequently joins the group as soloist and collaborative artist.

QIS group members:

  • William Street / alto saxophone alto (Canada)
  • Jean-Pierre Baraglioli / soprano saxophone soprano (France)
  • Keiji Munesada / tenor saxophone ténor (Japan)
  • Richard Dirlam / baritone saxophone baryton (United States)
