Dean Tammy Hopper

Dr. Tammy Hopper was appointed Dean in June 2022. She served as Interim Dean since 2021. She joined the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine in 2001 as a professor of communication sciences and disorders. Previously she served the faculty as Vice Dean (2015 - 2016) and Associate Dean, Graduate Studies and Research (2012 - 2015).  Dr. Hopper also served as Vice Provost (Programs) in the Office of the Provost and Vice President Academic from 2017 - 2021.

Dr. Hopper is a speech-language pathologist and professor whose research interests focus on improving communication and everyday life of individuals living with dementia. She grew up in The Pas, Manitoba, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba. She lived in the United States for 11 years, furthering her education and working clinically in long-term care and rehabilitation centres. Her research has been funded by national and international granting associations, and she has active research partnerships in Ireland, Australia, the US, and the UK.

Over the course of her career she has served on the board of directors for several non-profit organizations serving older adults, including the Excel Society, the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories, and the Alberta Association on Gerontology.

Tammy Hopper
