Rehabilitation Science

The Rehabilitation Science Graduate programs at the University of Alberta graduate researchers who use their curiosity to generate original ideas, develop sound research methods to answer relevant questions, and think broadly and critically about problems and questions related to rehabilitation. Graduates are adaptable and flexible in their thinking; they are excellent collaborators and communicators. Graduates use their knowledge, skills, and attributes to be leaders in rehabilitation research, partnering with health systems and policy advocates, and most importantly with people who seek to improve their quality of life through rehabilitation. Graduates utilize their transferable skills to work in academic and non-academic settings.

What is Rehabilitation Science

Rehabilitation Science is an inherently multidisciplinary field, attracting students from basic and social sciences, engineering, medicine, kinesiology, rehabilitation and a wide range of clinical professional backgrounds.

Rehabilitation scientists do research designed to help people engage fully in their lives - through the development and testing of strategies to enhance and optimize movement, communication, and everyday physical function and mental health.

Our Rehabilitation Science programs prepare graduates for roles leading and collaborating in research in Rehabilitation Science and related areas. Graduates also contribute in leadership positions in healthcare management, business, and provincial and federal civil service.
