Augmentative and Alternative Communication Camp

The University of Alberta in partnership with March of Dimes Canada (MODC), is excited to offer a three-day overnight Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Camp this August modeled after the Advancing Adventures in Communicating “AAC” Camp in Idaho. Located in beautiful Kananaskis Country, this camp will provide:

  1. Opportunities for children using AAC devices to communicate and build friendships with each other.
  2. A camp experience to children with disabilities, with a focus on social communication.
  3. Training and networking opportunities for parents and siblings of campers.

As part of the camp experience, campers and their families will participate in activities such as arts and crafts, music, campfire, swimming, and high and low ropes just to name a few! Each camper will be supported by a student counsellor from the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. These counsellors will be supported by experienced healthcare professionals in furthering their knowledge in speech-language pathology, physical therapy, or occupational therapy.
