Meet Karim Ali, the newest research assistant professor with the Department of Computing Science. Before joining us at the University of Alberta, Ali was a postdoctoral follow and led the code analysis subgroup of the Secure Software Engineering group at Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany.

What attracted you the University of Alberta's Department of Computing Science?

The feeling of collegiality amongst the faculty members. Everybody supports one another, and everybody wants to help me as a junior faculty member. My colleagues have been very supportive in helping me to ease the transition to a new home and a new job. They've offered lots of advice on teaching, recruiting students, and settling into life in Edmonton.

What are you most excited for this fall?

I'm really excited about meeting my new colleagues in the department and elsewhere that I haven't had the chance to meet yet, and to start teaching my first graduate course at the University of Alberta.

How are you settling in to campus and the city?

I love Edmonton! I have lived in Waterloo, Ontario for almost six years. I find that Edmonton is like Waterloo on a larger scale, which is awesome! You get the best of both worlds: feeling of a small city, yet the amenities and services of a large city.
