Message from the Chair - Mathematical and Statistical Sciences

Chair of the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Terry Gannon shares a message with alumni.

Terry Gannon - 21 September 2020

To the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences alumni family,

Well, here I am, the new chair in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (MSS). I look forward to meeting and engaging with you over the next five years. You can learn more about me here.

Welcome to Alumni Week(end) 2020: Campus to Couch Edition, where we showcase some of the many remarkable things that our department has to offer.

Over the next week, I invite you to learn more about financial technology, and how researchers in the Department of Computing Science are working closely with our colleagues in MSS to leverage the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to address some of the most pressing issues in the finance sector. Check out this story in the most recent edition of Contours, the Faculty of Science magazine.

Next, hear from your fellow alumna Betsy Varughese on her work modelling COVID-19 in Alberta as senior modeller with Alberta Health in the cover story of the most recent edition of Contours

We are hoping to introduce some new activities in the next few months, like virtual class reunions. But till then, thank you! I look forward to connecting with you again soon.

Terry
