Faculty & Staff Excellence

Bei Jiang, assistant professor in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences.

Congratulations to Bei Jiang, assistant professor in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, on receiving a Collaborative Research Team Award from the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI). The award will help fund Jiang’s research over the next three years, focusing on synthetic data and risk measures — a component of her expertise in data analysis.

Matthew Macauley, assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry.

Congratulations to Matthew Macauley, assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry, on being awarded the Raymond U. Lemieux Chair in Carbohydrate Chemistry. This honour recognizes Macauley’s research excellence, focused on glycans — carbohydrate biomolecules with important implications for human health and our immune systems.


Alumni Accomplishments

Congratulations to Maya Abou-Ghanem (‘21 PhD), graduate of the Department of Chemistry, on receiving a Faculty of Science 2021 Doctoral Dissertation Award. Abou-Ghanem received the award for her research on the impact of road dust on air quality.

Congratulations to Scott Karbashewsk (‘21 PhD), graduate of the Department of Physics, on being recognized with a Faculty of Science 2021 Doctoral Dissertation Award. Karbashewski received the award for his research on magnetized plasma pressure filaments.

Congratulations to Abhoy Karmakar (‘21 PhD), graduate of the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, on being recognized with a Faculty of Science 2021 Doctoral Dissertation Award. Karmakar received the award for his research exploring the microscopic structure and dynamics of halide perovskite and similar materials.

Congratulations to Michelle Sullivan (‘20 MsC), graduate of the Department of Physics, on being awarded the Allan Carswell Physics Educator Scholarship by the Canadian Association of Physicists. This scholarship is awarded physicists who demonstrate a strong academic record and passion for teaching physics, demonstrated by her outstanding work as a teaching assistant and outreach activities. 

Congratulations to Janko Vong (‘20 BSc), named the Mark Goodkey Memorial Trophy recipient as the top male Academic All-Canadian for 2020/2021! This award, and the AAC honour, recognizes outstanding academic and athletic achievements.
