Sustainable Food Working Group

This team explores ways of creating a resilient, engaging and sustainable food system at the University of Alberta.

Examples of projects

  • food donation program development
  • healthy food campus survey
  • organize a panel discussion

Get outside this summer and help beautify the University of Alberta. Through the Adopt a Planter program, you can grow your own veggie or flower garden right here, on campus. All members of the campus community are invited to participate while contributing to Sustainability Plan goals around mental health, the edible landscape and green space.

Enjoy all of the therapeutic benefits of gardening while working and studying this summer:

  • Sunlight and fresh air provide stress relief
  • Garden breaks increase physical activity throughout the day
  • Gain a sense of accomplishment as your plants thrive under your hard work

How to sign-up

Either independently or in a group, register to create or care for a campus garden. You can bring your own plants, design and maintain your garden, and bring home a healthy harvest as your plants flourish. Facilities & Operations will provide support, including watering and preparing beds for winter.

Adopt a Planter is run by Facilities & Operations and Human Resource Services.
