Faculty Opportunities

Supervision of Students in an International Setting: Supervise undergraduate nursing students in a different geographical and cultural context through clinical instruction. Areas of interest include: acute care, maternal and child health, community health, gerontology, and mental health. Please contact the Global Nursing Office for more information.

Supervision of Visiting International Students and Scholars Supervise undergraduate students (e.g. students from Brazil who are a part of the Science Without Borders funding program); graduate students (e.g. doctoral students, referred to as sandwich students, who come for approximately six months to experience in an enhanced scholarly environment and have a Canadian experience); and post-doctoral scholars (e.g. scholars; professors at various institutions come to the UofA for six to 12 months to further develop their research program)

Ghana Student Mentorship: This opportunity is a result of a long-standing partnership with the University of Ghana. The Faculty of Nursing hosts a group of the University of Ghana Master of Philosophy students (M'Phil) every year during the spring/summer term. The purpose of the program is to provide M'Phil students the opportunity to further develop their thesis proposal development with guidance from a faculty member as well as providing a Canadian experience. If you are interested in serving as a mentor for a visiting M'Phil student please contact Dr. Solina Richter.

Become a Member of the Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH): The Canadian Society for International Health is a non-governmental organization that works nationally and globally to decrease global health inequities and strengthen health systems. Canadian Nurses Association (CNA): The Canadian Nurses Association is a federation of registered nurses from eleven provincial and territorial nursing associations and colleges. The CNA provides a voice for Canadian registered nurses and represents Canadian nursing to other organizations and to governments, nationally and internationally.

Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA): The Canadian Public Health Association is the national, independent, not-for-profit, voluntary association representing public health in Canada. Members of the CPHA believe in universal and equitable access to the basic conditions which are necessary to achieve health for all Canadians.

International Council of Nurses (ICN): The International Council of Nurses is a federation of nurses from more than 130 national nurses associations. Governed by nurses, and leading nursing internationally, the ICN works to ensure the quality of nursing care for all people, worldwide.

Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research: The Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research is a knowledge network promoting equity in health worldwide. They are a member-based, not-for-profit organization representing global health students, researchers, and practitioners at institutions across Canada and in the South.
