The IVSP is about more than just academics! Our staff plans many events and cultural activities throughout the year so IVSP students have the opportunity to experience all that the University, the city of Edmonton, and the province of Alberta has to offer. These events are open to all students on campus, giving you the chance to meet students from all over the world!

On- campus Activities

There are always fun things to do on campus, and the IVSP organizes opportunities for students to join the events as a group. Attend a hockey or football game to cheer on the University team, enroll in a dance class or join a basketball team through Campus Recreation, or attend an event hosted by the Students Union.

Explore Edmonton

Visit the Art Gallery of Alberta, take a tour of the Alberta Legislative Assembly, or go skating at the world-famous West Edmonton Mall. Our program assistants will help you get to know your new surroundings by organizing trips around the city so you can enjoy life as a local!

Out-of-Town and Overnight Trips

No trip to Alberta would be complete without a visit to the Canadian Rocky Mountains. With multiple trips planned each semester to Banff and Jasper, you will several opportunities to travel to the Rocky Mountains. Activities on these trips range from skiing in the winter to canoeing in the summer but always include great scenery!

Other day trips include visits to DrumhellerCalgary, and Elk Island National Park

Volunteer

Get active in the community with volunteer options available on and off campus. Students can participate in language exchanges (in the classroom as teaching assistants or in student language clubs), volunteer at the many festivals around Edmonton in both summer and winter, or get assistance finding a long term volunteer placement that helps build their resume and give them great experience!
