Janice McGregor, ’72 BSc(HEc)

Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences Representative

Janice McGregor knew from an early age that she would attend the University of Alberta. She graduated with a BScHec (Household Economics) in 1972 and was hired by Alberta Agriculture as a District Home Economist immediately upon graduation. Janice spent her entire working career in small towns throughout northern and central Alberta. She gained expertise in extension program planning and evaluation and loved working with farm families and food producers.  Janice was especially adept at media and communications. She designed and contributed to a quarterly Agri-Preneur newsletter, providing food processors and farm producers with marketing and promotional information.

Janice created awareness in Regional Cuisine through the Dine Alberta program. She developed partnerships with relevant industry associations, matching food producers with chefs to facilitate the sale and use of local food products. She won a Leadership and Team Project award for this initiative.  Since her retirement she has focused on many volunteer efforts including the St Albert Public Library STARfest Committee, which features Canadian authors in an annual literary event. Janice is currently the Facebook page administrator for her church, creating and publishing content, taking photos and monitoring the page.

Janice enjoys participating in a wide range of online learning events, including the Peter Lougheed Leadership Series. She is a member of a monthly discussion group focusing on diversity, inclusion, homelessness and other social justice issues. Janice can often be found driving down back alleys, exploring and photographing the many sights around Edmonton, St Albert and surrounding communities. Janice is a member of the Quaecumque Vera Honour Society. In October 2020, she was nominated for, and received the University of Alberta Alumni Honour Roll and is proud of her A+ status.
