Stasiuk Award for the Study of Indigenous-Ukrainian Relations in Canada

In 2021, on the fiftieth anniversary of the official policy of multiculturalism, Canadians find themselves in the midst of a debate about what Canada is, what it means to be a treaty people, and how to build a better relationship between settler communities and Indigenous nations. In this same year, on September 30th our country marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. A successful example of the implementation of Canada’s multiculturalism policy, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) is now spearheading the evolving national dialogue on multiculturalism’s complex legacy while also seeking relevant ways to contribute to Canada’s ongoing work towards reconciliation.

To further advance the worthy and vital goals of truth and reconciliation in Canada, CIUS is offering a graduate student award for the pursuit of research in the area of Indigenous-Ukrainian relations in Canada.

The Stasiuk Award for the Study of Indigenous-Ukrainian Relations in Canada is funded from the Stasiuk Family Endowment Fund at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. This award is offered in affiliation with the Indigenous Ukrainian Relationship Building Initiative -- a joint initiative of the Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre at MacEwan University and the Kule Folklore Centre at the University of Alberta.

Eligibility
Applicants in any discipline within the social sciences and humanities may apply. In addition, two letters of reference are required from faculty members at the applicant’s current institution, to be sent to: ciusappl@ualberta.ca.
