Book Appointment

Peer tutoring is a collaborative process in which the tutor works with you to find areas for improvement in your writing. Your tutor will suggest strategies to help you develop and revise your own work. The long-term goal is to help you improve your own writing skills.

Peer tutoring is available for undergraduate students. If you are a graduate student, please email success@ualberta.ca and ask to book an appointment with one of our writing advisors.

Live Tutoring

Undergraduate students can book a live, or online, consultation to meet remotely with a peer tutor.

Please note:

  • Live appointments with peer tutors are 30 minutes. You can book two appointments in a row to have one hour with your tutor. In order for tutors to support as many students as possible, we ask that you book no more than two tutoring appointments a week. To inquire about additional time, please email success@ualberta.ca. You can book up to two weeks in advance.
  • Drop-in Policy: You may be able to join a drop-in list if the schedule is full or you would like to have more time with our peer tutors. Drop-ins are limited to same-day appointments and are subject to tutor availability.

In-Person Tutoring

Undergraduate students have the option to book an in-person consultation with a peer tutor to work on a piece of writing.

Please note:

  • In-person appointments are 30 minutes in length. You can book two 30-minute appointments in a row to have one hour with your tutor.
  • You can book up to two 30-minute appointments a week. You can book up to two weeks in advance.
  • Drop-in Policy: You may be able to join a drop-in list if the schedule is full or you would like to have more time with our peer tutors. Drop-ins are limited to same-day appointments and are subject to tutor availability.

eTutoring

In addition to live/in-person peer tutoring, we are offering some eTutoring appointments for undergraduate students who are unable to book live appointments or prefer to receive written feedback on their writing.

Please read the important information below before you book an eTutoring appointment.

When booking an eTutoring appointment, please provide:

  • Your course name, course number, and instructor's name (if applicable)
  • Your writing (attachment required) and assignment description (if applicable)
  • Three to five focused questions or areas for your tutor to consider. Here are some sample questions:
    • Do I have a strong thesis statement?
    • Do I have an effective structure for my paper?
    • Am I doing in-text citations properly?
    • How can I strengthen my introduction and/or conclusion?
    • Do I have well-supported arguments?

Please note:

  1. One of our eTutors will return your writing with feedback within three business days.
  2. Your eTutor can only spend one hour reviewing your writing. Therefore, your tutor may not be able to read and respond to longer documents.
  3. There is limited availability for eTutoring appointments. You can book one eTutoring appointment per week. You are also strongly encouraged to book live appointments to work on your writing.
