Andrei Marti & ADI Graduate Scholarships

Opportunity Overview

A generous gift from Andrew Beckerman held by the Victoria Foundation, along with matching funds from the Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI), has resulted in scholarship opportunities for graduate students at the ADI who have demonstrated excellence in knowledge dissemination combined with academic achievement.

The Andrei Marti Graduate Scholarships support students studying islets or cell therapies for diabetes, while the ADI Graduate Scholarships support graduate students studying other aspects of diabetes. Applicants are asked to highlight an important contribution made during the past 12 months via publication, abstract, presentation, public outreach, or other activity.

Eligibility

  • Graduate students (MSc or PhD) who are enrolled full-time at the University of Alberta.
  • Your primary supervisor must be an ADI Member.
  • Your research focus must be centered on diabetes.
  • Individuals may apply to only one scholarship stream per competition:
    • Andrei Marti Graduate Scholarship: For individuals conducting cell-based therapy research (analyzing, preparing, or delivering islet cells).
    • ADI Graduate Scholarship: For individuals conducting diabetes research that is not focused on cell-based therapy.
  • An award may be held only once during an MSc or PhD program. Recipients are not eligible to apply for the alternate award in a subsequent year.
