Opportunity Overview

Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows make substantial contributions to research and represent the future of scientific leadership. Many trainees living with diabetes pursue research careers at the Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI) out of personal connection, but face out-of-pocket costs for medications, supplies, and devices that can create financial hurdles.

Through a generous commitment establishing the Facilitating Equity in Diabetes Research (FEDR) Fund, the Chan family created the FEDR Chan Family Scholarship. This award honors ADI trainees living with diabetes in recognition of outstanding scientific and non-scientific contributions that advance health and well-being for diabetes patients.

Eligibility

• Graduate students (MSc or PhD) and post-doctoral fellows enrolled or employed full-time at the University of Alberta.
  • Former ADI graduate students may also apply within 12 months of graduating from their ADI program.
• Your primary supervisor must be an ADI Member.
• Your research focus must be centered on diabetes.
• Must be living with diabetes requiring pharmacotherapy.
• Award Frequency: The scholarship may be held only once per recipient. Unsuccessful applications may be carried over to the subsequent year or resubmitted as a new application.
