Impact Series

BCom students at the Alberta School of Business have the opportunity to participate in an Impact Series, which is a four-year learning opportunity to help students gain hands-on experience working on projects that are community-connected.

The Impact Series aims to push students beyond what they would normally do in a classroom and challenge themselves to think critically on how to create an impact in their community.

2024-2028: Ferguson Impact Series

The Ferguson Impact series, which launches in Fall 2024 and will continue to Winter 2028, is focused on the topic of affordability. Learning for community epxerts, students will explore the factors that contribute to affordability. They will work together to come up with recommendations for how to make Edmonton an attractive place for young people to live, learn, work and play.

2023-2027: MNP Impact Series

The MNP Impact series, which launches in Fall 2023 and will continue to Winter 2027, is focused on the topic of local economy. Students will learn from local economy experts in Edmonton to build their understanding about what factors influence the economy. They will work together to come up with recommendations for improving the local economy, creating positive impact in their community.

2022-2026: Axford Impact Series

The Axford Impact Series, which launched in Fall 2022 and will continue to Winter 2026, is focused on downtown vibrancy in Edmonton. To start their series, BCom students from BUS 101/201 partnered with the City of Edmonton. Students met with stakeholders in the community, including groups like business owners and those who work and live downtown, to create proposals for initiatives that were then presented to a panel of judges. More than 1,500 students participated and submitted over 200 projects. The students will continue to work on projects related to downtown vibrancy in each year of their program, diving deeper into the topic and generating more meaningful community impact as they advance their business skills.
