Accounting Technical Training Series

Enhance your classroom learning with practical skills! The Accounting Technical Training Series provides hands-on experience with some of the most widely used accounting software in private practice and industry today.

Cost: Thanks to generous funding from the Student Experience Fund, these sessions are FREE for students (A comparable training package would typically cost over $500).

What’s Included in the Series? 
To complete the series, you must attend all four sessions. A limited number of seats is available in each session for drop-in students who are not completing the series.

 

Power BI is software that is gaining popularity in the accounting industry used for data analytics and visualization. This is an introductory bootcamp where we will do a walkthrough of Power BI desktop layout, data transformation, data modelling, basic calculations using DAX (Data Analytics Expression) and creating different types of visualizations.

Quickbooks (online version) is a very commonly used software package used to do daily/monthly/weekly bookkeeping and prepare financial reports. This bootcamp will include a walkthrough of the layout of Quickbooks Online, data entry of some common transactions including invoicing, receipts, payables, payments, adjusting entries, etc as well as where reports like the income statement, balance sheet and trial balance can be found.

Sage 50 (Simply Accounting) is a very commonly used software package used to do daily/monthly/weekly bookkeeping and prepare financial reports. This bootcamp will include a walkthrough of the layout of Sage 50 (desktop), data entry of some common transactions including invoicing, receipts, payables, payments, adjusting entries, etc. as well as where reports like the income statement, balance sheet and trial balance can be found.

This is an intermediate bootcamp where we will do a more in depth walkthrough of Power BI desktop layout, data transformation, data modelling, basic calculations using DAX (Data Analytics Expression) and creating different types of visualizations.


What will I gain?
Students who complete all four sessions will receive a CWIL-accredited digital badge to display on LinkedIn and include in their resume.

Accounting Technical Training Series FAQ

The sessions are usually in BUS B-24-28, but this is subject to change based on lab availability.

Yes—full attendance is required to earn the badge. However, limited seats in each session will be available for drop-in students who do not wish to complete the full sessions.

Usually ~2 hours

No, you do not need to have any experience with the software prior to attending the sessions. However, it is recommended to take PowerBI Intro before taking PowerBI Intermediate.
