Residency Requirements for the BCom Degree

  1. Students must complete, at minimum, 60 units of course weight (ucw) as a University of Alberta BCom student.

  2. Once admitted to the program, students may not attend another post-secondary institution unless accepted to a formal international exchange program.

  3. Of the 60 ucw, at least 45 ucw must be Business courses.

  4. Of the 45 ucw in Business courses, 15 ucw must be senior level Business courses in the chosen major subject.

  5. Students must satisfy all degree requirements within the 120 ucw permitted and cannot take courses extra to degree requirements.

  6. The residency requirements of the program may limit options when selecting a major and/or minor.

These requirements ensure students graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree take the majority of their Business courses at the University of Alberta as an Alberta Bachelor of Commerce student and have sufficient exposure to not only our course work, but also the environment and culture of the School.

Please carefully review your What-If Report and subsequent updates to your academic requirements if you change majors and/or minors.

For Bilingual Bachelor of Commerce students, please carefully review your flowchart and subsequent updates to your flowchart if you change majors and/or minors.

By accepting our offer of admission, you are agreeing to the requirements of the Bachelor of Commerce degree and the residency requirements in place. You are also agreeing to the transfer credit assigned to you upon admission.

Admission decisions are final and are not appealable. Should you have any questions about residency, transfer credit or program requirements, please make arrangements to speak with an Academic Program Advisor in the Business Undergraduate Office.
