Come together to celebrate the winter season and share activities with Share the Cheer!

Host international students

Share the Cheer is an excellent opportunity to learn about our students' cultures and perspectives, to share your traditions, your cultural background, and offer a personal connection when their family and friends are far away.  

Who is eligible?

University faculty, staff, alumni and graduate students.

Each host is required to host a minimum of 2 international students for one dinner, December 21, 2019 - January 1, 2020. 

Timeline

Host deadline extended: Friday, December 13, 2019 

Matches are shared with hosts, December 13, 2019.

Please note: Graduate student hosts must live off-campus to participate in the program.

Enjoy celebrating the winter season with a host family for a holiday dinner. Exchange holiday traditions and share your cultural celebrations with your hosts. 

Register early, space is limited, and participation is not guaranteed.

Guests are responsible for discussing their disclosed dietary restrictions or allergies with their hosts at least 72 hours before the dinner.  

If you are interested in going with a friend, please apply as a group.

UAlberta student guest(s) deadline: Sunday, December 1, 2019.

Please note: To finalize your registration, you will receive a confirmation email that requires your response no later than Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Matching (December 10 - 13)

  • Confirmed international students will be matched with participating hosts. 
  • Hosts will be notified by email with details of their student guests by Friday, December 13, 2019.
  • Hosts are responsible for contacting their guests to make arrangements.
  • Student guests are responsible for letting the host know about any dietary restrictions or allergies 72 hours before dinner.
