Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
Bachelor of Arts — Creative, inquisitive and unique. The BA program is an excellent degree for those wanting to explore music in a self-directed fashion. Students can specialize in music theory, music history, world music, or composition, combining critical thinking and personal expression. Students may select academic and performance music courses from a specified list of options, including our outreach courses and study abroad programs. Admission does not require an audition.
Bachelor of Arts - Honors in Music
This is a four-year program designed for students considering graduate study in music history, theory, ethnomusicology, or cultural studies, or for students who wish to study music and its place in culture in the context of a liberal arts program. The program allows students to study art, folk, and popular music traditions, emphasizing academic work rather than performance.
Admission into the first year of a B.A. Honors program is dependent upon a high matriculation average. Entrance into the Honors in Music program normally takes place at the end of the first year of university study. Entrance may be granted at an earlier or later date depending on the circumstances. Successful completion of aural skills and theory placement tests is required prior to admission into the Honors in Music program.
To be eligible to continue in this program route, students must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 with an average of 3.3 in music courses. For more information please visit the University Calendar.
Bachelor of Arts - Major or Minor in Music
The Bachelor of Arts is a four-year program that allows for greater flexibility for enrollment in courses across the faculty of Arts while pursuing some focus on music. Completing a Major or Minor in Music allows the student to obtain a broad-based musical education that can be complemented with other arts disciplines or combined with parallel studies such as our World Sound Arts Certificate program.
Bachelor of Arts students have the option of choosing two major subjects or one major subject and multiple minor subjects.
