How to Apply

All applications must be submitted on line through the Faculty of Graduate Studies online application system. The online admission application system will be available starting October 1st and will have a deadline of January 15.

Applications, including all supporting documentation must be submitted by 23:59:59 (MST) on January 15.

Application Instructions:

  1. Determine if you meet the application requirements:
  2. Apply online through the Faculty of Graduate Studies. All submitted applications require a non-refundable application fee, which must be paid before the department deadline.
  3. See our application FAQ document for more information about the documents you will need to submit and how to approach the application process.

Notes:

  • You do not need confirmation from a supervisor before applying to the program. However, students are encouraged to make informal contact (e.g. e-mail) with potential supervisors about their research interests during the application process and indicate this on their statement of purpose.

  • DO NOT send hard copies of documents to the Department; all application documents are to be uploaded to the FGSR application system.

  • Read the Application Requirements for Academic Documents (transcripts, degree certificates, marksheets).

  • To expedite the processing of your application, please save all files using the University of Alberta's file naming conventions.

  • You will be able to check on the progress of your application by returning to the online application system. You can access the application portal here.

  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that references and all required documents are received by the application deadline or the application will not be considered.
